DanceFit: Flow is a gentle, contemporary dance inspired class, focusing on functional flexibility, joint mobility and balance, in a flowing fitness fusion.
A combination of contemporary dance and mindful movement, this class is ideal for a wide range of participants, from those wishing to improve their balance, to those just wanting to add a little ‘me time’ to their week.
What do we mean by functional flexibility? This class is definitely not about being able to do the splits or touch your head with your foot! Functional flexibility is simply about the ability to move more freely in everyday life. The word ‘mobility’ can also be confusing as this isn’t just about being mobile, it’s about loosening all the joints and the muscles, anything that has become tight and stiff, helping the body to feel restored and agile.
I enjoy the structure of the class and it helps with my breathing, I like the small classes and how friendly the sessions are.

Is a DanceFit: Flow class suitable for me?
While this class is ideal for older adults and beginners, it really is great for everyone, whether you’ve spent a long time throughout the lockdowns being largely inactive, or you workout frequently and just want to spend some time each week to help reset and recharge your body. It’s definitely a class we can all benefit from.

DanceFit: Flow is a completely standing session with no floor work, ideal for those who cannot move comfortably to and from the floor and also for those who prefer a slightly more dynamic ‘dancey’ stretching session to mat based workouts.
DanceFit: Flow is low impact and low intensity. All fitness levels are very welcome to join this class, no dance experience necessary!
The exercises in this class are aimed at adults, 16+ years. 14-16 year olds are permitted only with a parent/guardian also participating in the class. The parent/guardian must fill in the booking form and sign the declaration on behalf of the child.
Classes are taught by a fully qualified fitness professional with a specialism in healthy ageing and certifications in balance training and functional flexibility, along with the EMDUK ‘instructor ready mark’ for Covid compliance.
Booking in advance is currently essential. Your safety and wellbeing remains a priority and there will still be distancing measures in place and a limit on numbers for the foreseeable future, thank you for your co-operation.
What to wear for a Flex + Flow class
Please wear something you are comfortable moving in. Leggings or joggers and a t-shirt are ideal, plus an extra layer for colder days, especially as we keep windows and doors open at the moment to allow adequate ventilation in the hall.
While lightweight, flexible footwear would be ideal, you are welcome to wear trainers, jazz shoes, ballet shoes, whatever you are used to moving in. You are welcome to do this class with bare feet if you prefer, although (especially in the colder months) a pair of yoga socks or similar can help increase circulation, keeping the feet warm and aiding mobility of the feet and ankles. I have a few pairs of studio socks available here which are ideal.

I used to attend gym classes regularly before lockdown and have really loved Helen’s online classes, the new Flex especially is helping me being an osteo arthritis sufferer and also my ongoing physio after a knee op. They give me a sense of well being, are such fun and keep me fit. I would recommend the Flex to anyone and look forward to trying new classes.
